Amazon investment is growing, with Amazon paying more than $2bn for stakes in US start-ups.
But as the firm looks to grow its international presence, investors are also looking to get a taste of the UK market.
With UK’s biggest start-up incubator The Tech Lab opening up a UK office, UK-based investors are eyeing an early investment in a number of UK-listed companies, from start-Ups like Snapdeal and Shopify to online-commerce giants like Amazon.
Amazon’s investment in The Tech Labs is set to be worth more than £300m.
The company will invest in 12 UK start- ups that will have a combined valuation of more than a billion dollars.
The UK’s venture capital arm said in a statement that The Tech is investing in “significant UK start ups”, and that it expects the funds to grow to £350m in 2019-2020.
The Tech Lab is a UK incubator that works with some of the world’s biggest startups, including Uber, Airbnb and Groupon.
Its UK-focused fund, called The Tech Ventures, was launched in 2014.
The UK is currently one of Amazon’s largest investments in Europe.
